What Is Turmeric?

Turmeric is a spice that comes from the turmeric plant and has been used for thousands of years in India not only for it’s flavour but also for it’s amazing health benefits including reducing headaches, colds, lung infections, hay fever, fever, menstrual problems, irritated skin, depression, Alzheimer’s disease, swelling, skin pain, ringworm, sprains, acne, inflammatory skin conditions and much more.

However ginger’s powerful cousin is only just becoming more well known in the western world. One of the main problems people face when trying to incorporate turmeric into their diet, is how to actually use it. Adding turmeric to every meal is difficult when trying to balance flavours, finding the right supplement can be a challenge and some people don’t enjoy the taste of turmeric on it’s own. Therefore we have created our turmeric blends! We mix turmeric with different flavours or with other super foods such as hemp protein or matcha, this means you get all the health benefits of turmeric in a mug full of delightful flavours and a new favourite in your daily routine.

Turmeric and it’s health benefits

There are numerous health benefits that turmeric brings to the table such as, aiding digestion of fat, helping to maintain healthy blood sugar levels and boosting the important brain hormone BDNF.

Turmeric contains curcuminoids, the most important one being curcumin. Curcumin works wonders for brain health and impacts your memory, mood and brain function. Not only that, it helps to prevent diabetes, cancer, inflammation and chronic pain. But is doesn’t stop their either, Curcumin  reduces cholesterol, improves digestion and boosts your immune system!

Starting with your mood curcumin reduces brain inflammation and improves neurotransmitters linked to depression. Due to it’s potent antioxidant properties, curcumin protects and nourishes the brain. It increases blood flow which improves concentration and memory, rises the level of the brain hormone BDNF (brain-derived neurotrophic factor) this stimulates the creation of new blood cells.

Inflammation is one of the root causes of many health conditions like metabolic syndrome, heart disease and even cancer. The effect of turmeric’s powerful anti-inflammatory properties offer a protective benefit. Due to turmeric strongest ingredient curcumin, it works to supress molecules known to play major roles in inflammation. Because of it’s anti-inflammatory properties, turmeric is great for reducing joint pains often linked with arthritis.

The high antioxidant values help fight free radical damage. Meaning it is especially good for your immune system. Turmeric also helps to boost your body’s own antioxidant defences. This means you are not only adding more antioxidants to your body, you are improving what’s already there!

How much turmeric should I use?

Consuming 1-2 teaspoon of turmeric per day have been associated with health benefits. We also add black pepper to our blends. Black pepper is important when consuming turmeric as it helps all that goodness absorb better into your blood stream.
